GRAN FONDO

The first Gran Fondo Giro d'Italia Northern Ireland will be held on 21 June 2015, run by Giro organisers RCS. Gran Fondo events are sportive aimed at amateur cyclists across the world who travel to the host country to participate. The event is a closed road sportive which gives the opportunity to ride with previous champions of the Giro.

Two race routes have been scoped and provisionally recommended by the organisers, preceded by cycling activities across Northern Ireland on the day before the main event.

Both routes, one 177 kilometres (109 miles) and the other 58 kilometres (36 miles), commence and finish at the iconic Titanic Belfast, and they are expected to include the Mourne Mountains and Strangford Lough.

THE TALL SHIPS RACES 2015

From the 2nd to 5th July Tall Ships from around the world will anchor at Belfast Harbour and Titanic Quarter for the start of The Tall Ships Races 2015.

We are expecting up to 80 ships and hoping to attract 500,000 people with another 500,000 watching the ships arrive and leave the Irish Coast.

TENNENTS VITAL

Tennent's Vital has unveiled the acts for its 2015 event - which will include a headline slot from superstar DJ Calvin Harris and an appearance from Ellie Goulding. Tennent's Vital 2015 takes place at Boucher Road Playing Fields, Belfast on Saturday 29 August.

BBC SPORTS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR

The 2015 BBC Sports Personality of the Year will be held in Belfast on Sunday, 20 December.

An 8,000-capacity audience at the city's Odyssey Arena is expected to attend the annual awards show. It will be the first time that Northern Ireland has hosted the event, which first went on the road in 2006.

The programme will reflect on a packed year which includes a Rugby World Cup, Women's Football World Cup and an Ashes series on UK soil.
